Feist (ft. Beck + Wilco’s Nels Cline) - “Weighted Down”

via Pitchfork:

Beck is about halfway through with his latest Record Club effort, which finds him spinning Skip Spence’s 1969 LP Oar into cool new directions with help from Wilco, Jamie Lidell, Feist, and others. Track number five, “Weighted Down (The Prison Song)”, just went up, and it’s the first one to feature Feist on lead vocals.

The crew transform the slow-motion folk dirge into something decidedly more upbeat, with squelchy beats and Wilco’s Nels Cline absolutely murdering it on acoustic guitar. Feist sounds amazing and Beck even breaks out his Midnite Vultures falsetto at the end! It’s kinda like blippy gospel. The highly recommended song/in-studio video is below, along with Spence’s original.

So, so good. I can’t think of another artist doing cooler things online than Beck. Such a cool community of artist to be gathering for something like this too. Check out more from Beck’s Record Club.
